Planning inputs, setup and access

Before you start

  • An Asana plan with portfolios.
  • A single-select custom field holding each project's T-shirt size, and a number field your teams estimate tasks in.
  • Start and due dates on projects or tasks.
  • Teams that own the projects in your portfolios.
  • A Capasight workspace admin to connect Asana and confirm setup.

Connect and open Capasight

  1. Start a free trial at app.capasight.co.uk and set up two-step sign-in.
  2. In Settings › Asana, select Connect with Asana and allow read-only access.
  3. Choose your workspace, portfolios and fields, then confirm the Setup Wizard's suggestions.

Your first ten minutes

  1. Read the hierarchy. Check the Overview reflects the portfolios and projects you plan with.
  2. Locate capacity pressure. Inspect the PIs, sprints and ARTs in Capacity.
  3. Follow a commitment. Delivery brings each portfolio's date together with the work affecting it.
  4. Consider a change. Review Actions and the room shown in Planning before discussing scope, dates, sequence or capacity.

Access and licensing

Capasight reads Asana through the access you allow at sign-in, read-only. Workspace licences are ordered directly from Capasight: find your workspace ID in Settings › Asana › Licence, then use the licence order form when needed.

Questions before you connect.

Does Capasight change anything in Asana?

No. It asks Asana for read-only access and never writes.

What does Capasight keep?

Each item's name, size, points, dates, completion, team and place in the hierarchy, in Capasight's hosting on AWS in the US (us-east-1). The access Asana issues is encrypted with AWS KMS and never shown again.

What happens when we disconnect?

Remove connection revokes Capasight's access at Asana and deletes everything read from Asana, its teams included.

Do we need sprints in Asana?

No. Capasight uses its own sprint cadence; a completed task counts in the sprint its completion date falls in.

Are subtasks read?

No. Tasks are where work is estimated.
